Tyre giant Michelin's UK branch is launching what it describes as 'its most significant new truck and coach tyre to enter the market for a decade', targeted at both regional and national operators.
Being introduced principally for UK fleets, the 295/80 R 22.5 Michelin X MultiWay 3D tyre extends the company's current X MultiWay 3D range and follows the success of 2011's 315/70 and 315/80 sizes, which have since joined the ranks of Michelin's bestsellers in Europe.
The X MultiWay 3D series uses three-dimensional tread sipes which sport better grip in tough climates. Michelin has tried out the new model in a winter tyres simulation and found it offered a 25 per cent reduction in stopping distance.
The 295/80 size is a favourite with domestic operators, with the dimension making up around 25 per cent of all commercial vehicle tyres sold.
“Our extensive testing has shown an increase in total mileage performance of up to 15 per cent for the new steer tyre," revealed Brian Porteous, UK technical manager at Michelin.
